About Ingawa Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ingawa local government area is in Katsina state, Northwest Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Ingawa. Ingawa LGA is made up of several towns and villages such as Tunas, Santar Kanya, Kurheji, and Ingawa. The estimated population of Ingawa LGA is 139,781 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Fulani ethnic group. The Hausa and the Fufulde languages are spoken in the area while Islam is the commonly practiced religion in the area.


GEOGRAPHY OF INGAWA

Ingawa LGA covers a total area of 892 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 34 degrees centigrade. The average humidity level of Ingawa LGA is 23 percent while the total precipitation in the LGA is measured at 800 mm of rainfall per annnum.


ECONOMY OF INGAWA

Farming is a critical part of the economy of Ingawa LGA with crops such as millet, guineacorn, groundnut, and beans cultivated in the area. The LGA is also a hub for the rearing and sale of a number of domestic animals such as donkeys, rams, and cattle. Trade also flourishes in Ingawa LGA with the area hosting several markets where a variety of commodities are bought and sold.

HISTORY OF INGAWA

Ingawa LGA was created in May 1989 from the Kankia LGA.
