About Danja Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Danja local government area is located within Katsina state which is in the Northwest geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Danja while the area is made up of a number of towns and villages which include Chediya, Danja, Bazanga, Dauraku, Jiba, Kahutu, Tsangamawa, and Majedo. Danja LGA is bordered by Kano and Kaduna states and by the Funtua, Bakori, and Kafur local government areas. The population of Danja LGA is estimated at 139, 431 inhabitants with a vast majority of this number being members of the Fulani and Hausa ethnic divisions. The religion of Islam is widely practiced within Danja while the Fufulde and Hausa languages are commonly spoken in the area. Popular landmarks in Danja LGA include the Ganuwa ancient Wall.


GEOGRAPHY OF DANJA

Danja LGA covers a total area of 501 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 33 degrees centigrade. The average wind speed in Danja LGA is estimated at 9 km/h while the humidity level of the area averages 17 percent.


ECONOMY OF DANJA

Agriculture is the major means of livelihood for the people of Danja LGA with a wide variety of crops such as maize, white beans, guinea corn, soyabeans, millet, tomatoes and onions grown in large quantities within the area. Trade is also an important feature in the economic life of Danja LGA with the area hosting several markets which include the Chunko, Dabai, and the Tandama markets.

HISTORY OF DANJA

Danja local government area was created in the year 1991 from the Bakori local government area.
