About Atakumosa West Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Atakumosa west is a local government area domiciled in Osun state, Southwest Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA is at Osu while the area comprises a number of towns and villages which include Osu, Akola, Iloba, Isaobi, Itaosin, Muroko, Isireyun, and Ibodi. The area is mainly populated by members of the Ijesa subdivision of the Yoruba ethnic group. Christianity and Islam are the common religious affiliations in Atakumsa west while Yoruba and English are the commonly spoken languages in the area. The Atakumosa west LGA is home to a number of colourful festivals which include the Iwude festival.


GEOGRAPHY OF ATAKUMOSA WEST

Atakumosa west LGA covers a total area of 577 square kilometres and features two distinct seasons; the dry season which usually comes between November-March and the rainy season which runs from around April-October. The average temperature of Atakumosa west LGA is 28.5 degrees centigrade while the humidity of the area is estimated at 59 percent.


ECONOMY OF ATAKUMOSA WEST

Agriculture is an important economic activity in Atakumosa west LGA with several crops and vegetables cultivated in the area. Other important economic enterprises in the area include hunting, pottery, and cloth weaving and dyeing. Commerce is also an important economic feature of the area with markets such as the Osunbare market attracting thousands of buyers and sellers. Atakumosa west LGA also has substantial amounts of gold deposits.
