About Oriade Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Oriade local government area is found in Osun state, South-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Ijebu-jesa and the LGA is made up of several towns and villages such as Owena, Apoti, Ijinmo, Orisunbare, Iwoye, Iwaraja, Dagbaja, and Iloko. The estimated population of Oriade LGA is put at 169,084 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Ijesa sub-division of the Yoruba ethnic group. The Ijesa dialect of the Yoruba language is commonly spoken in Oriade LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are commonly practiced in the area. Prominent traditional rulers in Oriade LGA include the Akinla of Erin Ijesa while notable landmarks in Oriade LGA include the Olashore International School, Iloko-ije.


GEOGRAPHY OF ORIADE

Oriade LGA hosts the popular Oluminrin waterfalls and the LGA covers a total area of 465 square kilometres. The LGA has a grassy, flat landscape with an average temperature of 27 degrees centigrade. Oriade LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons.


ECONOMY OF ORIADE

Ori Ire LGA is a hub for craftsmanship. The weaving of mats, baskets, hand fans amongst other domestic implements is a major source of livelihood for dwellers of Oriade LGA. The LGA also has a vibrant agricultural sector with crops such as kolanuts, pepper, vegetables and a host of fruits grown in the LGA. Other important occupations of the people of Oriade LGA include trade, textile weaving, and hunting.
