About Irepodun Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Irepodun local government area is domiciled in Kwara state, Northcentral geopolitical enclave of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Omu Aran. Towns and villages that make up Irepodun LGA include Esie, Oko, Oro, Omu aran, Ajase-ipo, and Ijomu-oro. The estimated population of Irepodun LGA is 147,333 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Igbomina ethnic group. The Igbomina dialect is widely spoken in Irepoadun LGA with the religions of Christianity and Islam popularly practiced in the area. Prominent traditional rulers in Irepodun LGA include the Olupo of Ajase-ipo and the Olomu of Omu-aran  while notable landmarks in the area include the Esie Museum.


GEOGRAPHY OF IREPODUN

Irepodun LGA covers a total area of 737 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 30 degrees centigrade. The area witnesses two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The average humidity level in Irepodun LGA is put at 53 percent while the average wind speed in the area is 10 km/h.


ECONOMY OF IREPODUN

Trade is a key feature of the economy of Irepodun LGA with the area hosting a number of markets such as the popular Kara market in Ajase-ipo where a variety of goods and services are exchanged. Farming is also an important economic activity in Irepodun LGA with a variety of crops grown in the area. Other important economic engagements of the people of Irepodun LGA include hunting, crafts making and textile weaving.
