About Ila Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ila local government area is in Osun state, Southwest geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Ila Orangun. A number of towns and villages make up Ila LGA and these include Ayetoro Obaaro, Oyi Ajegunle, Isinmi Olootu, Alagbede, Oore, Idi Odan, Edemosi, and Ajaba. The estimated population of Ila LGA is 94,732 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Yoruba ethnic group. The Igbomina dialect of the Yoruba language is commonly spoken in the area while Christianity and Islam are the commonly practiced religions in the LGA. Popular festivals held in Ila LGA include the Isinro festival while the LGA has a number of landmarks such as the Osun state College of Education and the African Heritage Research Library.


GEOGRAPHY OF ILA

Ila local government area covers a total area of 303 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 28 degrees centigrade. The area experiences two major seasons which are the rainy and the dry seasons. The average humidity level of the LGA is 58 percent while the average wind speed is 10 km/h.


ECONOMY OF ILA

Farming is an important economic activity in Ila LGA with crops such as cocoa and palm wine trees grown in large quantities within the area. The area also has a booming trade sector and has a number of markets where a wide variety of commodities are bought and sold. Other important economic activities in Ila LGA include palm wine tapping, hunting, woodwork, craftsmanship and the collection and processing of medicinal roots and herbs.
