About Odo-otin Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Odo Otin local government area is situated in Osun state South-west geopolitical enclave of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Okuku and the LGA is made up of several towns and villages which include Okuku, Ekusa, Okua, Inisa, Obe, Agbaje, Ekosin, Iyeku, and Faji. The estimated population of Odo Otin LGA is put at 105,382 inhabitants with the area mostly populated by members of the Yoruba ethnic group. The Yoruba language is commonly spoken in the area while the religions of Christianity, traditionalists and Islam are practiced in the area. Prominent traditional rulers in Odo Otin LGA include the Olunisa of Inisa while important landmarks in the area include the Shekinah College Inisa.

Odo Otin LGA occupies a total area of 294 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 27 degrees centigrade. The Otin River flows through the LGA’s territory with the average humidity level in the LGA put at 65 percent.


ECONOMY OF ODO-OTIN

Trade is an important feature of the economy of Odo Otin LGA with the area hosting a number of markets such as the Orisunmbare market which attracts hundreds of buyers and sellers. Farming is also an important occupation of the people of Odo Otin LGA with the area known for the cultivation of several crops such as pepper, cassava, and maize. Other important economic engagements of the people of Odo Otin LGA include food processing, and gathering and preparation of roots and herbs.
