About Ejigbo Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ejigbo local government area is found in Osun state, Southwest Nigeria with the headquarters of the area domiciled in the town of Ejigbo.  The towns and villages that make up Ejigbo LGA include Olla, Iwata, Ayegbogbo, Masifa, Ilawo, Afake, Ife-odan, and Olori. The estimated population of Ejigbo LGA is 79,882 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Yoruba ethnic group. The religions of Islam and Christianity are widely practiced in Ejigbo LGA with a sizeable percentage of the area’s dwellers being traditional religious practitioners. The Yoruba language is commonly spoken in the area while the Ogiyan of Ejigbo is the traditional ruler of the LGA. Popular festivals held in Ejigbo LGA include the Orisan Ogiyan festival while the notable landmarks in the area include the Ogidiolu farms and the Osun state University college of Agriculture.


GEOGRAPHY OF EJIGBO

Ejigbo local government area covers a total area of 373 square kilometres and has an elevation of 426 meters above sea level. The LGA falls within the Tropical Savannah Climate and has an average temperature of 29 degrees centigrade. The humidity level of Ejigbo LGA averages 62 percent while the average wind speed in the area is 13 km/h.


ECONOMY OF EJIGBO

Ejigbo local government area is majorly an agrarian community with crops such as cocoa, coconut, oil palm, potato and cocoyam grown in the area. The area is also home to several markets which include the Oja Ejigbo market and these markets provide veritable platforms for the exchange of various goods and services.
