About Ede North Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ede North local government area is one of the two LGAs domiciled in Ede town of Osun state, Southwest Nigeria. The LGA has its headquarters in the town of Oja timi and comprises of several towns and villages which include Doba, Adejuwon, Faosun, Bara, Araromi, Kajola, Oloba, and Abogunde. The population of Ede North LGA is estimated at 94,562 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s inhabitants being members of the Yoruba ethnic division. The Timi of Ede serves as the traditional administrator of the area. The Yoruba Language is widely spoken in Ede North LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are extensively practiced in the area. The popular estivals held in Ede north LGA include the Egungun festival while important landmarks in the area include the Adeleke University and the Osun state NYSC Orientation Camp.


GEOGRAPHY OF EDE NORTH

Ede North LGA sits on a total area of 111 square kilometres and witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The average temperature of the area is put at 29 degrees centigrade while the humidity level of the area averages 63 percent. Ede North LGA also has an average wind speed of 11 km/h.


ECONOMY OF EDE NORTH

Ede North is majorly an agrarian community with most of the area’s inhabitants being farmers who cultivate a wide variety of crops such as cocoa, oil palm, and cassava. Other important economic enterprises in Ede north LGA include hunting, textile dyeing and trade. The LGA is home to several markets where a wide variety of commodities are bought and sold.
