About Obokun Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Obokun local government area is domiciled in Osun state, South-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Ibokun and the LGA is made up of several towns and villages which include Imesi-ile, Idominasi, Ora, Esa-oke, Ilase, Iponda, Otan-ile, and Ikiyinwa. The estimated population of Obokun LGA is put at 109,541 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Ijesha sub-division of the Yoruba ethnic group. The Ijesha dialect of the Yoruba language is extensively spoken in the LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are practiced in the area. A number of festivals are held in Obokun LGA and these include the Obokun Traditional festival of Unity and the Iwude Ijesha festival  while prominent traditional rulers in the LGA include the Alademure of Ibokun and the Alowa of Ilowa-Ijesa.


GEOGRAPHY OF OBOKUN

Obokun LGA occupies a total area of 527 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 28 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two major seasons which are the dry season which falls between October and March and the rainy season which usually falls between the months of April to September.


ECONOMY OF OBOKUN

Agriculture is a significant aspect of the economy of Obokun LGA with crops such as pepper, vegetables, cocoa, and rice grown in the LGA. Trade also flourishes in the LGA with the area hosting several markets where a plethora of commodities are bought and sold. Other important economic enterprises engaged in by people of Obokun LGA include hunting and crafts making.
