About Ilesa East Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ilesa east local government area is in Osun state which is domiciled in the Southwest geopolitical area of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the Iyemogun district of Ilesa town. Ilesa east LGA is bordered by the Ilesa west, Obokun, Atakunmosa, and Oriade LGAs. Ilesa east LGA is made up of several towns, districts and villages which include Ayeso, Araromi okesa, Egbeide, Ibala, Idasa, Ijoka, Isida, Ilerin, and Iyemogun. The estimated population of Ilesa east LGA is 93,404 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Ijesha sub division of the Yoruba ethnic group. The Yoruba language is commonly spoken in the LGA while notable landmarks in the area include the Ilesa grammar school and the Kiriji war Museum. The Owa Obokun of Ijeshaland is the traditional administrator of the area while a number of festivals such as the Iwude festival are held in Ilesa east LGA.


GEOGRAPHY OF ILESA EAST

Ilesa east LGA covers a total area of 71 square kilometres and has an annual average temperature of 28 degrees centigrade. The area falls under the Tropical rain forest zone and has an average humidity level of 61percent. The average wind speed in the area is 11 km/h.


ECONOMY OF ILESA EAST

Ilesa east LGA has a number of mineral deposits chief of which is gold. The area is also an agrarian community with a variety of crops such as pepper, coconut, cassava, and vegetables grown in the area. Ilesa east LGA also hosts a number of banks, hotels, and industries. Other important economic activities engaged in by the people of Ilesa east LGA include trade, blacksmithing, and craftsmanship.
