About Afijio Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Afijio is a local government area located in Oyo state, Southwest Nigeria. Created in May 1989 following the disintegration of the Oyo local government area, Afijio LGA has its headquarters in the town of Jobele. Prominent towns and villages in Afijio include Aawe, Fiditi, Ilora, Iware, and Jobele. Afijio has an estimated population of 182,755 inhabitants with a vast majority of these being members of the Yoruba ethnic group. Christianity and Islam are the major religious persuasions in Afijio LGA while the Yoruba and English languages are the commonly spoken languages in the town.

Afijio local government area covers a total area of 722 km squared and has an average temperature of 28.5 degrees centigrade. 


ECONOMY OF AFIJIO

Farming is an important economic activity in Afijio local government area with crops such as Maize, Yam, cocoa, coffee and cassava grown in appreciable quantities. Also, popular markets such as the Eleekara market, Ayetoro market, and Oparinde market are popular centers for commerce in Afijio local government area and contribute immensely to the economy of the area.

HISTORY OF AFIJIO

Afijio local government area was created in May 1989 following the split of the Oyo LGA.
