About Iwajowa Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Iwajowa local government area is in Oyo state, South-west Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Iwere-ile. Towns and villages that make up Iwajowa LGA include Ijio, Jokolo, Ofeegun, Ijeomeso, Iganna, Elekokan, Itasa, Tudi, and Ayegun wasinmin. The estimated population of Iwajowa LGA is put at 150,738 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Yoruba ethnic group. The Yoruba language is commonly spoken in the LGA while Christianity and Islam are the most practiced religions in the area. The Gegun of Aiyetoro-ile is one of the prominent traditional rulers in Iwajowa LGA.


GEOGRAPHY OF IWAJOWA

Iwajowa LGA sits on a total area of 2,529 square kilometres and has an estimated average temperature of 28 degrees centigrade. The average humidity level of the LGA is 60 percent while the total precipitation in Iwajowa LGA is estimated at 1800 mm of rainfall per annum.


ECONOMY OF IWAJOWA

Iwajowa LGA is largely known for the massive production, sale, and export of charcoal. The area slso has a vibrant agricultural sector with a wide variety of crops such as cashew and cocoa cultivated in the area. Other important economic enterprises undertaken by people of Iwajowa LGA include trade and craftsmanship.

HISTORY OF IWAJOWA

Iwajowa LGA was created on the 4th of December 1996 from the Kajola LGA.
