About Saki West Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Saki west local government area is domiciled in Oyo state, South-west geopolitical area of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Shaki and the LGA comprises of several towns and villages such as Tenleke, Olomitutu, Kaje, Idi Apa, Ataye, Abatade, Bodilu, and Mojo. Saki west LGA has an estimated population of 249,711 inhabitants with the area mostly occupied by members of the Yoruba ethnic group. The Yoruba language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are practiced in the area. Prominent traditional rulers in Saki west LGA include the Okere of Shaki while the notable landmarks in the area include the Nigerian Army 2nd Mechanized division and the Oke Ogun Polytechnic.


GEOGRAPHY OF SAKI WEST

Saki west LGA covers a total area of 2,014 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 28 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the area also having substantially large forest reserves.


ECONOMY OF SAKI WEST

Saki west LGA is a hub for trading activities with the area hosting several markets such as the Sango, Okerete, and Karra markets which attract thousands of buyers and sellers and also provide platforms for a plethora of goods and services to be exchanged. Other important economic enterprises engaged in by the people of Saki west LGA include hunting, farming, wood carving, and crafts making.
