Orelope

Orelope local government area is found in Oyo state, South-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Igboho and the LGA is made up of several towns and villages which include Jakuta, Modeke, Adenko, Jegede, Odiyin, Baaru, Akingbasa, and Yewere. The current estimated population of Orelope LGA is put at 215,882 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s populace made up of members of the Yoruba ethnic group. The Yoruba language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are practiced in the LGA. The paramount traditional ruler in Orelope LGA is the Alepata of igboho.

Orelope LGA occupies a total area of 917 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 28 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the total precipitation in the area put at an estimated 1550 mm of rainfall per annum.

ECONOMY OF ORELOPE

Trade is one of the cardinal features of the economy of Orelope LGA with the area hosting a number of markets such as the Oke Afin central market where a plethora of commodities are bought and sold. Farming also booms in the LGA with the area known for the cultivation of a variety of crops such as cocoa, rice, maize, pepper, and kolanut. Other important economic activities in Orelope LGA include hunting and crafts making.
