About Lagelu Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Lagelu local government area is found in Oyo state, South-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Iyana Offa. Lagelu LGA shares boundaries with the Egbeda, Iwo, Ibadan North, Akinyele, and Ibadan Northeast. Towns and villages that constitute Lagelu LGA include Ajara, Ogunjana, Apatere, Ogunbode, Lalupon, Ogunremi, Eleruko, and Gbena. The estimated population of Lagelu LGA is put at 171,548 inhabitants with a vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Yoruba ethnic group. The Yoruba language is widely spoken in the area while the religions of Christianity and Islam are practiced in the LGA.


GEOGRAPHY OF LAGELU

Lagelu LGA covers a total area of 338 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 28 degrees centigrade. The average humidity level of the LGA is 63 percent while the total precipitation in the LGA is put at an estimated 2000 mm of rainfall per annum.


ECONOMY OF LAGELU

Lagelu LGA has a boisterous Agricultural sector and is known for the cultivation of a number of crops such as Cassava, maize, yam, cocoa, and kolanut. Trade is also a critical part of the economy of Lagelu LGA with the area hosting several markets such as the Lagelu main market where a variety of commodities are bought and sold. Other important economic activities in Lagelu LGA include textile weaving and dyeing, preparation of roots and herbs and hunting.

HISTORY OF LAGELU

Lagelu LGA was created in the year 1976.
