About Oyo East Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Oyo East local government area is domiciled in Oyo state, South-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria with the headquarters of the LGA stationed in the town of Kosobo. Towns and villages that make up Oyo East LGA include Gudu gbu, Kosobo, Jabata, Melagro, Ori Awo, ile-iwe, and Owode. The estimated population of Oyo East LGA is put at 183,741n inhabitants with the area mostly populated by members of the Yoruba ethnic affiliation. The Yoruba language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are practiced in the area. The paramount traditional ruler of Oyo East is the Alaafin of Oyo while the notable festivals held in the area include the Sango festival.


GEOGRAPHY OF OYO EAST

Oyo East LGA occupies a total area of 144 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 28 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the average wind speed in the area put at 10 km/h.


ECONOMY OF OYO EAST

Oyo East LGA has a rich agricultural heritage with crops such as cocoa, kolanut, cassava, and pepper grown in the LGA. Trade also blossoms in the LGA with the area hosting several markets where a variety of commodities are bought and sold. Other important economic activities undertaken by the people of Oyo East LGA include animal rearing, wood carving, and textile weaving.
