About Ibarapa Central Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ibarapa central local government area is in Oyo state, Southwest Nigeriaand has its headquarters in the town of Igboora. Ibarapa central LGA shares boundaries with Ibarapa east, Ibarapa north LGAs and with parts of Ogun state. Towns and villages that make up Ibarapa central LGA include Igboora, Idere, Moletie, Oke-oba, Onigbio, Iberekodo, Idofin, and oke-iserin. The estimated population of Ibarapa central LGA is 94,152 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Yoruba ethnic division. The Yoruba language is commonly spoken in the area while the religions of Islam and Christianity are widely practiced in the LGA.


GEOGRAPHY OF IBARAPA CENTRAL

Ibarapa central LGA covers a total area of 440 square kilometres and witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The average temperature of the LGA is 28 degrees centigrade while the area has an average humidity level of 60 percent. Average wind speed in Ibarapa central LGA is 9 km/h.


ECONOMY OF IBARAPA CENTRAL

Ibarapa central LGA has a vibrant trade sector and hosts a number of markets such as the Towobowo, Onilado, and Ayeda markets. Farming is also a major economic activity undertaken by residents of the area with crops such as yam, cassava, cashew, oil palm, melon, okro, and cocoa grown in large quantities. Other important economic activities undertaken by dwellers of Ibarapa central LGA include traditional cloth dyeing, soap making, and blacksmithing.

HISTORY OF IBARAPA CENTRAL

Ibarapa central LGA was created on the 4th of December 1996 from Ifeloju LGA.
