About Ori Ire Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ori Ire local government area is domiciled in Oyo state, South-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Ikoyi and the LGA is made up of several towns and villages such as Afekulu, Ikoyi ile, Igboroko, Mosumoje, Onimangoro, Oolo, Olokomeji, Gbemiro, and Alokomanro. The estimated population of Ori Ire LGA is put at 303,478 inhabitants with the area primarily populated by members of the Yoruba ethnic group. The Yoruba language is extensively spoken in the LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are commonly practiced in the area. Prominent traditional rulers in Ori Ire LGA include the Olukoyi of Ikoyi-ile.


GEOGRAPHY OF ORI IRE

Ori Ire LGA covers a total area of 2,116 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 27 degrees centigrade. The area experiences two major seasons which are the dry season which usually falls within the months of October-March and the rainy season which comes around the months of April-September. There are vast reserves of forested areas in Ori Ire LGA. 


ECONOMY OF ORI IRE

Ori Ire LGA has a renowned charcoal industry with the area known for the production and sale of the commodity in large quantities. The LGA also has a vibrant agricultural sector with crops such as pepper, maize, plantain, cocoa, and kolanut grown in the area. Trade also blossoms in Ori Ire LGA with the area hosting several markets which provide platforms for the exchange of a variety of goods and services. Other important economic activities engaged in Ori Ire LGA include hunting, lumbering, and gathering of roots and herbs.
