About Olorunsogo Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Olorunsogo local government area is found in Oyo state, South-west geopolitical enclave of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Igbeti and the LGA is made up of several towns and villages which include Alakuko, Tantomo, Onipede, Elesin, Bogere, Agbogangan, Binukonu, and Gasali.  The estimated population of Olorunsogo LGA is put at 294,838 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Yoruba ethnic group. The Yoruba language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are practiced in the area. Notable landmarks in Olorunsogo LGA include the Olorunsogo Power Plant and the OYSADEP Dam.


GEOGRAPHY OF OLORUNSOGO

Olorunsogo LGA covers a total area of 1069 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 27 degrees centigrade. The area hosts a number of elevations such as the Iyamopo and the Okun hills. The Yegun River flows through the Olorunsogo LGA while the area witnesses an average wind speed of 11 km/h.


ECONOMY OF OLORUNSOGO

Olorunsogo LGA has rich deposits of Marble and the mining and processing of the mineral by companies such as the Igbeti marble industry contributes immensely to the economy of the area. Farming and trade also contribute to the economy of the LGA. Olorunsogo LGA also hosts hotels, banks, industries and government establishments.
