About Irepo Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Irepo local government area is found in Oyo state, South-west geopolitical division of Nigeria with its headquarters in the town of Kisi. A number of towns and villages make up Irepo LGA and these include Kisi, Alegongo, Sise, Olowo, Olokoto, Barunganma, Budo Gesi, Adagbanba, and Elerin. The estimated population of Irepo LGA is 167,908 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Yoruba ethnic affiliation. The Yoruba language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are widely practiced in the area. Important festivals held in Irepo LGA include the Adasobo festival while notable landmarks in the area include the post office at Kisi and the Nomadic school in Irepo town.


GEOGRAPHY OF IREPO

Irepo LGA covers a total area of 984 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 28 degrees centigrade. The average humidity level of the LGA is 61 percent while the total precipitation in the LGA is put at 1700 mm of rainfall per annum.


ECONOMY OF IREPO

Farming is an important economic enterprise engaged in by the people of Irepo LGA with crops such as Yam, maize, and guineacorn grown in fairly large quantities within the area. Trade also blossoms in Irepo LGA with the area hosting a number of markets such as the Kisi New Market where a variety of commodities are bought and sold. Other critical economic activities undertaken by the people of Irepo LGA include blacksmithing and hunting.
