About Doguwa Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Doguwa local government area is located in Kano state, Northwest Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Riruwai. The LGA is made up of several towns and villages such as Dadabo, Zenabi, Fanyabo, Mahuta, Lungu, Sabuwar, Tsauni and Shiburu. The population of the area is put at 168,709 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s inhabitants being members of the Hausa and the Fulani tribal divisions. The widely practiced religion in the area is Islam while the Hausa and the Fufulde languages are extensively spoken in the area. Popular landmarks in the area include the Falgore forest.


GEOGRAPHY OF DOGUWA

Doguwa local government area covers a total area of 1,473 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 34 degrees centigrade. The LGA comprises of vast forest reserves which include the Falgore forest which covers three LGAs. Doguwa LGA has an average humidity level of 18 percent while the average wind speed of the area is at 9 km/h.


ECONOMY OF DOGUWA

Farming is the major occupation of the people of Doguwa local government area with a variety of crops such as rice, sorghum, millet and soyabeans grown in the area. Trade also blossoms in the area with the area hosting several markets such as the Sabuwar Kaura market where traders and buyers meet to exchange a variety of goods and services. The Fulani population of the Doguwa LGA are predominantly cattle rearers with a large number of cows reared in the area.
