About Sumaila Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Sumaila local government area is found in Kano state, North-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria with its headquarters in the town of Sumaila. Towns and villages that make up Sumaila LGA include Bagagare, Gediya, Rimi, Yamma, Rumo, Gwanda, Gajigi, and Bango. The estimated population of Sumaila LGA is 249,510 inhabitants with the area mostly occupied by members of the Jobe, Hausa, and the Fulani ethnic groups. The Hausa language is one of the spoken languages in Sumaila LGA while thereligion of Islam is commonly practiced in the area.


GEOGRAPHY OF SUMAILA

Sumaila LGA occupies a total area of 1,250 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 32 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the average wind speed in the area put at 9 km/h.


ECONOMY OF SUMAILA

Sumaila LGA has a rich faming heritage with crops such as groundnut, millet, rice, and beans grown in large quantities within the area. Trade also flourishes in Sumaila LGA with the area hosting several markets such as the Gomo market where a variety of items are bought and sold. Other important economic activities in Sumaila LGA include textile weaving, animal rearing, and leather works.

Sumaila LGA was created in the year 1982.
