About Gwale Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Gwale local government area is one of the fourty-four LGAs in Kano state, Northwest Nigeria. The hadquarters of the LGA are in the town of Gwale and comprises of several towns and villages which include Fuska, Yalwa, Gandu, Dadankaya, Dandunshi, Waika, Aburawa, Kabuga, and Jaen. The estimated population of Gwale LGA is 204,661 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s populace made up of members of the Hausa and the Fulani ethnic divisions. The Hausa and the Fufulde languages are extensively spoken in the area while the religion of Islam is widely practiced in the LGA. Notable landmarks in Gwale LGA include Government College Gwale.


GEOGRAPHY OF GWALE

Gwale LGA covers a total area of 18 square kilometres and is part of the urban area of Kano state. The average temperature of Gwale LGA is 34 degrees centigrade while the total precipitation in the area is estimated at 900 mm of rainfall per annum.


ECONOMY OF GWALE

Gwale LGA hosts a number of institutions such as banks, schools, hotels, plus private and government owned institutions. Gwale LGA also has a vibrant trade sector with the area hosting several markets where a variety of commodities are bought and sold. Other important economic enterprises undertaken by the residents of Gwale LGA include textile weaving, blacksmithing, leather works, and carpentry.
