About Kura Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Kura local government area is domiciled in Kano state, North-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Kura and the LGA shares borders with the Garun Mallam, Madobi, Dawakan Kudu, and Bunkure LGAs. Kura LGA consists of several towns and villages and is populated majorly by members of the Hausa and Fulani ethnic groups. The estimated population of Kura LGA is put at 213,884 inhabitants with the Hausa and Fufulde languages commonly spoken in the area. Notable landmarks in Kura LGA include the Kura General Hospital and the Kura College of Islamic studies.


GEOGRAPHY OF KURA

Kura LGA covers a total area of 206 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 32 degrees centigrade. The area hosts the Rafin Kura River and has an average humidity level of 34 percent. The total annual precipitation in Kura LGA is put at 1300 mm of rainfall per anum.


ECONOMY OF KURA

Kura LGA has a rich agricultural heritage and is known for the cultivation of a number of crops such as rice, wheat, onions, tomatoes, cabbage and cucumber. Trade also blossoms in Kura LGA with the area hosting a number of markets such as the Kura market where a variety of commodities available for purchase. A number of domestic animals are also reared and sold in Kura LGA and these include camels, cows, and horses. Other important economic activities engaged in by people of Kura LGA include hunting, craftsmanship, and pottery.
